Qualification Overview

Based on the UK Adult ESOL Core Curriculum, this qualification is aimed
at learners seeking to:

•  Expand their knowledge of day to day situational and general English language Enhance their interpersonal communication skills in a British community
•  Improve their understanding of life in the UK
•  Improve their grasp and dexterity in a new, or familiar but poorly
  learnt language
•  Meet English language criteria for naturalisation / UK citizenship
•  Achieve personal and economic independence
•  Take full part in day to day social and cultural activities

These learners generally include:

• New refugees and asylum seekers
• Long term immigrant settlers like (applying for indefinite leave to remain in uk or applying for citizen ship) who need to acquire adequate language
  skills
• Long and short term visitors (like people coming on spouse visas) from the European Community or from other coountries.
• Full and part time learners who wish to study English as a means of accessing training or qualifications

Qualification Structure

Three compulsory units:

• Speaking and listening
• Reading
• Writing

Assessment Method

Speaking and listening . recorded interview and discussion

• Reading . multiple-choice test
• Writing . written tasks

In each case, the assessments are externally set, internally marked and
externally moderated
